Assignment: Create a free web account (at xoom.com), download FTP client (WS_FTP), and FTP a one line web page with your name to your newly created account, and sign guestbook with your new URL.

• To create your one line web page:
1. Start Microsoft Word and type your name
2. Click File, Save As, type the name index, and change file type to save as Web Page (.htm)
• To Set up a free account to host your web page at Xoom.com:
1. Point your browser to http://xoom.com/webspace
2. Click Join Now For Free link in upper right corner of screen
3. Enter your email address (one you can check from the web now) and click on NEXT button. If you do not have a web based email account, set up a free one at one of these free email services.
4. Pick a Member Name – NOTE: this will be your web address as follows: http://members.xoom.com/MemberName You’ll enter your URL in guestbook when finished.
5. Fill out information and click the CLICK HERE THEN WAIT button
6. You will probably get an error of some type. Fix any errors, change your xoom member account name if it is already being used by someone else, etc. Once you successfully complete this process, you’ll see a Join Xoom.com! message welcoming you.
7. Fill in the REQUIRED information such as address, city, birthday, etc. Omit optional information and Uncheck all product offers, unless you want large amounts of junk email.
8. Click Don’t Send Me Any Magazines and click Continue with Sign up Process.
9. You’ll see a message that tells you that your account has been set up (you are on step 3 of 4). The message explains that you must check your email to get instructions to activate your new account.
10. Check your email. The message with the subject line Thanks for Becoming a Xoom Member is the one you’ll need to activate your account. Open the email and go down 40 or 50 lines to the link to To Activate Your Account. This will take you back to xoom to validate your new account.
11. Click the AGREE line at the top saying that you agree to their terms and conditions.
12. Type in your Username and Password that you created in step 5 or 6 above, and you should get a response from xoom.com stating Step 4 of 4 Account Activated!
• To Download and Install WINZIP: (Skip this step if your machine has WINZIP installed on it)
1. Point your browser to www.download.com and search for WINZIP or just click the following link: http://download.cnet.com/downloads/0-10097-100-896913.html?tag=st.dl.10001_103_1.lst.titledetail
2. Click Download Now link and wait for it to find the download site
3. You’ll be asked if you want More Info, Pick App or Save File. Click SAVE FILE.
4. Browse to the drive and path where you want to save, then click the SAVE button.
5. Install WinZip by double clicking the executable file you just downloaded.
• To Download, Extract and Install WS_FTP LE (Limited Edition):
1. Point your browser to www.download.com and search for WS_FTP or just click the following link: http://download.cnet.com/downloads/0-10064-100-914912.html?tag=st.dl.10001_103_1.lst.titledetail
2. Click Download Now link and wait for it to find the download site
3. You’ll be asked if you want More Info, Pick App or Save File. Click SAVE FILE.
4. Browse to the desktop as your location where you want to save, then click the SAVE button
5. Create a new folder on the desktop by right clicking the desktop. Then click New, then click Folder. Type WS_FTP and press the enter key to name your folder.
6. To extract the compressed file, Right drag your WS-FTP zipped file to your newly created WS_FTP folder on the desktop. Click extract to c:\windows\desktop\WS_FTP. Click I Agree button.
7. To install the program, double click Ws2setup.exe icon in your WS_FTP folder
• To set up your FTP client (WS_FTP) to connect to your newly created web account:
1. Start WS_FTP by double clicking the ws_ftp95.exe file created by the install
2. Create a new FTP session by entering a description of your choice in the Profile Name field. Type ftp.xoom.com in the Host Name/Address field. Leave Host Type as Automatic. Type in your member name you created at xoom in the User ID field. Then click OK to connect.
• To FTP your one line web page to your new xoom account:
1. Browse to your local file (on your disk or hard drive) in the left pane of WS_FTP window
2. Click your one line web page that you saved as index.htm.
3. Click the arrow pointing to the right, found in the middle of the two panes in WS_FTP.
• To sign guest book:
1. Point your browser to http://harris, click Sign Guestbook link, then click Sign Guestbook. You can view your web page (and others) by clicking the View Guestbook link. Click View User’s Site icon.
